Home and Self-Care Tips for Virgo ~ Color

.

Virgo ColorsThe effects of color on our psyche and mood is well documented. Perhaps there’s a clue or two about how using these colors in your home or clothing can help integrate the qualities of each sign.

The main colors associated with Virgo are classic navy blue (indigo) and gray. These colors are mature and conservative, seeking respect, responsibility, and organization.

Navy blue is an intellectual color representing self-reliance and responsibility. The color of wise counsel, wearing or surrounding yourself with navy blue can motivate you to resolve problems and become more efficient.

If you like this color, you’re probably the take-charge type and think of yourself as resourceful, responsible, and intellectual.

You may also feel vulnerable and protective of your emotions. If that’s the case, use navy blue as a buffer between your feelings and the harsh world. It’s an excellent color for retreat and meditation because it draws your focus inward to search for beauty and a sense of justice, or feelings of security and love. Continue reading

Lunar Gardening Tips for April 29 – May 5, 2012

.

The waxing phase continues through the Full Moon on Saturday, but with only a few really good planting days. Best days are May 3-5. Exclude the 5th if you don’t like planting on the Full Moon.

Leo and Virgo are barren signs, best for general cleanup, weeding, pest riddance, and the like, though I prefer to get rid of things when the Moon is in the waning phase. The waning phase signifies release, so it just makes sense.

Leo1_thumb[2]Last week I mentioned focusing on the star of your garden and adding garden decorations while the Moon is in the royal sign of Leo. I picked up a fantastic garden ornament from a local nursery that I adore. It’s a gazing ball with moon and star cutouts, perfect for a lunar gardener or a moon garden. It can be used just as a gazing ball, but a candle can be placed underneath it for nighttime use. It casts beautiful dancing moon and star shapes when a candle is placed inside, making quite a fanciful centerpiece for outdoor dining. I kept it outside for a while, but I love it so much that I’ve brought it back indoors.

Did you know that Leo is associated with the back? If you need to get your “back forty” prepped for planting during a fertile sign, Leo is a good time to do just that. Leo is a dry, barren sign, but that doesn’t mean it’s useless. If you’re setting something in Quikrete (that fast setting concrete), use the fiery force of Leo to help it set well. Make your own garden stepping stones using Quikrete and personalize them. Check out the video below to learn how. Continue reading

Lunar Gardening Tips for April 1-7

Over winter, we can forget just how hard gardening is. Bending, squatting, pulling, hauling ~ it’s definitely a workout. My batwings are feeling stronger already.  My husband said that gardeners need winter training just like baseball players need spring training to get up to the task and back in shape. I have to agree with that. Problem is, I didn’t have winter training and, like lots of gardeners, I overdid it a few days during the past two weeks. Now that I’m a bit long in the tooth, I don’t bounce back as quickly and it takes two days to recover from one day of overdoing heavy work. Take it slow out there, gardeners.

The Moon is waxing until the Full Moon in Libra on Friday, so there’s a few good hours of planting time for vines during Virgo and flowers during Libra. Leo and Virgo are barren signs; Libra and Scorpio are fertile.

Times are EDT, Zone 8.

Leo is the worst sign for planting. Stick to general clean-up tasks on Sunday and Monday: weeding, removing pests, picking up fallen limbs and sticks. If planting time is just starting for you, you can use Leo for prepping your garden: uncovering new growth, getting new mulch and other things you’ll need on hand as the season begins. If you’re in deep trouble with overgrown areas, gather up the kids or hire someone to help and be the leader of your own yard crew.

Leo is a wonderful time for decorating with garden ornaments. Leo likes drawing attention to special focal points in the garden that make it special. If there’s a spot in your garden that you adore, are proud of, and pay special attention to, that’s probably your Leo spot. Continue reading

Zodiactivities for April 1-7, 2012 ~ Spring Cleaning Tips

Focus of the Week: Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of year again ~ time for spring cleaning. I really enjoy this time of year, getting everything clean and fresh again. There’s a real joy in sunshine pouring through a clean window. It lets me see all the little critters and flowers in the yard…and keep an eye on what’s happening at the neighbor’s house. Just the other day, a dad was teaching his toddler how to hit a softball.

Staying in tune with the Moon can help with all kinds of chores. Here are some spring cleaning tips for this week’s Moon signs. Continue reading

Zodiactivities for March 5-11: Moon in Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio

Times are EST, Gardening for Zone 8. Check the March calendar for sign changes. To make adjustments for your time zone, click here.

Venus enters Taurus on Monday bringing comfort and acceptance to the tried and true. Maybe the same old/same old isn’t so boring after all? It’s all about the joys of the simple life. Sharing a beneficial aspect with Neptune, we may find that we’re actually okay living the dream we’re in, at least for the time being.

Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, the 11th!daylight savings time

The waxing Moon in Leo on Monday and Tuesday can have everyone bursting to take the lead. This can be harder than it seems, with disappointment roaring in on Tuesday if Monday’s efforts are pushed. Just let it go, it probably wasn’t a big deal, anyway.

The Full Moon in Virgo on Wednesday is the checkpoint of the New Moon in Pisces two weeks ago. Where Pisces expands beyond boundaries, Virgo stays within the lines. Order to chaos.

Zodiactivities for February 6 – 12, 2012: Moon in Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio

Times are EST, Gardening for Zone 8. Times noted are for sign changes. For additional daily activities, see  February Zodiactivities calendar.

It’s a big week with lots of sign changes and a Full Moon.

Only in our dreams

The Moon is in Cancer for most of the daylight hours on Monday with a change of signs into Leo on Monday evening. The Full Snow Moon in Leo on Tuesday brings a halt to outgoing activities and brings the focus inward. Leo rules the heart, back, romance, and our egos, so a Full Moon can heighten energies surrounding these issues. By midday Thursday, Virgo reminds us to be practical. By Friday evening, the Libra Moon has us ready to socialize ~ a good time for heart-to-hearts, the arts, and all things beautiful.
